Results Based Accountability

• What is Result Based Accountability

Result Based Accountability (RBA) is a tool that helps communities take action to improve the lives of children, families and the community as a whole. Through the use of Performance Measures, in the RBA process, agencies and programs can see how well their services are working in improving the lives of the clients they serve. The RBA process can be adapted to meet the needs and circumstances of different communities and programs.

Several agencies, resident groups, funders and initiatives in Polk County have adopted the use of RBA as a way to align community Results, Indicators and Performance Measures for better outcomes for children, families and the community.

The Human Service Planning Alliance and United Way of Central Iowa have identified three community results. The HSPA Clusters’ are aligning their work to move community indicators that impact the three result.

The use of Results Based Accountability is based on the work of Mark Friedman from the Fiscal Policy Studies Institute. You can get further information at www.raguide.org.
